In A Mirror Is Where We Find A Reflection or Our Appearances, Not on A Heart Is Where We Find Reflection of Our Soul. -Unknown
It’s that time of the year again. Where everyone is looking forward to the start of a new year. People are making goals to better themselves and reflecting on the years previous goals and hoping that the upcoming year will be better than the last. Often people make “New Year’s Resolutions” such as losing weight, finding a better job, or even trying new things and being more adventurous. But have you ever considered going into the new year with the goal of being a happier you? A truly and genuinely happy you with no limitations.
Make Yourself Happy
Consider what makes you happy and how you can achieve it. If you like hanging out with your friends but you find yourself spending less and less time with them, see if you can make plans or schedule some time to spend time with them. Maybe you enjoy reading but you feel like you don’t have any down time. Consider leaving 30 minutes before bed to read those books that you have on the shelf collecting dust. Think about what is holding you back from being happy. It may be difficult to pin point what exactly might be holding you back. It could possibly be that you are holding in emotions or suppressing feelings. Maybe this is the year you finally decided to come out and live the life you’ve been dreaming of.
The best way to accomplish that resolution according to the American Psychological Association is to Start Small, make a goal that you think you can keep. Change One Behavior at A Time. Unhealthy behaviors develop over the course of time, replacing and replacing those behaviors with healthy ones require time. Don’t get overwhelmed and think that you have to reconsider everything in your life. Instead, work toward changing one thing at a time.
Be Kind To Yourself
It is also very beneficial to Talk About It, share your resolution with family, friends or a therapist. Having someone to share your struggles and successes with makes your journey to a happier life so much easier. Never Beat Yourself Up, remember that minor missteps when reaching your goals are completely normal. And finally, Ask for Support. Accepting help from those who care about you and will listen, strengthens your resilience and ability to manage stress caused by your resolution. If you feel overwhelmed or unable to meet your goals on your own, we here at True You Southeast are always willing to help you achieve your own happiness.
Get Some Help From a Therapist
